By creating real, tangible ties between cultures, we inspire our local community to take part in efforts that support students in Uganda. From a Personal Connection to a Global Mission

It all started with a mother and son’s deep love for Uganda. After spending time living there on and off since 1997, Penny Randell and Peyton Thomas built lasting relationships and gained a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing students and communities.

What began as a small effort—enlisting a few friends in the Evergreen community to help during COVID—quickly grew into something much bigger.

With the support of a lawyer and a CPA, that grassroots effort became official, and Speakers for Africa was established as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Bringing Uganda to Evergreen Through Dance

One of the most powerful ways we connect cultures is through music and dance. We encourage Colorado teens to engage with Ugandan culture by dancing to Ugandan music, creating a fun and meaningful connection to the communities we serve.

During the Evergreen Holiday Walk, students from a Conifer dance school performed a tap dance routine set to popular Ugandan music. This performance introduced the community to Ugandan culture in a way that was both engaging and memorable.

Engaging Youth Through Soccer

Soccer is a universal language, and we use it to connect youth in Colorado with students in Uganda. By encouraging kids in Evergreen to participate in soccer, we create a shared experience that mirrors the boys’ and girls’ teams we support in Uganda.

This connection helps young people understand that, despite distance, they share common interests, passions, and opportunities to support one another.

Building Cultural Connections Through Art and Craft

We also encourage adults in our community to engage with Ugandan culture through crafts, jewelry, and other handmade goods. These items not only support artisans and communities in Uganda but also allow people in Evergreen to feel personally connected to the impact they are making.

Creating Lasting Impact Through Community Engagement

At its core, Speakers for Africa is about creating meaningful, lasting impact through connection. By engaging the Evergreen, Colorado community in cultural experiences, events, and shared activities, we turn awareness into action.

When people can see, hear, and experience Ugandan culture, they are more inspired to contribute—whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness.

Together, we are building a bridge between Evergreen and Uganda—one rooted in education, culture, and shared humanity. Speakers for Africa works to support Uganda students through education, sanitation, and community-driven programs.
