Uganda School Kitchen Renovation
In March 2025, Speakers for Africa began repairs on the school kitchen at Uganda Youth Aid School, transforming a smoke-filled, unsafe cooking area into a functional space where daily meals can be prepared more efficiently and hygienically. These improvements immediately enhanced food preparation, reduced health hazards, and ensured students receive meals in a cleaner, safer environment.
A reliable school kitchen is essential to student success. The kitchen renovation at Uganda Youth Aid School addresses decades-old structural problems that previously exposed children and staff to smoke inhalation, unsanitary conditions, and food insecurity. By strengthening the building, improving ventilation, and creating a safe cooking layout, the project secures long-term nutritional support for the school.
Over time, this investment will:
Ensure students have access to consistent, healthy meals that improve focus and academic performance
Reduce illness caused by open-fire cooking and poor ventilation
Provide a safe work environment that supports future food programs
Increase school enrollment and attendance by reducing hunger-related absenteeism
Establish a replicable model for other schools facing similar infrastructure challenges
This renovation is more than a building upgrade; it is a commitment to student well-being. By repairing the kitchen, Speakers for Africa is strengthening the foundation for learning—because no child should try to study on an empty stomach.
